A few years back I was working in a factory on a job where there were a couple of Germans also doing an install.

They were putting up a lot of cable tray to run a large SWA feed to a new machine.

They were cutting the tray into all sorts of impressive sets etc. using what I can only describe as a small grinder

they were literally throwing the stuff up too, quicker than using a hacksaw

Has anyone seen / used this method?

You can make up some wooden formers for your most common widths, to use with the grinder. They don't need to be very fancy just a ply triangle with batten attached that you can clamp to run the the grinder along (for safety) that way you'll be sure to get a neat cut.

Nope, but sounds good to me. Typical German efficiency.

I use a Rage saw, cuts almost everything and is relatively cheap to buy.
They do chop saws and all sorts.
Machine Mart stock them as do B+Q.

ive used one of them rage chopsaws, and they are good. if i ever get a job doing anything with uni/tray (privately) then i wouldnt hestiate in buying one. id get the "bacon slicer" version though.

still cant beat a grinder for accurate work though.

acurate is something to do with the church, lights the candles or something

Just done a job with some cable tray for a PV installation, used a 4inch Makita 110v grinder to cut and shape it, looks quite neat in my opinion:
