How would one manage the re-location of five meters owned by five different energy companies during a mains supply upgrade? The old supply will be disconnected at the same time the new is energised. All five meters will need to move to a new location approx 1 meter away.

What is the best way to manage this without interrupting supplies? Temp connections via henley blocks until all suppliers can visit? Move everyone onto the same supplier before works start so only dealing with one company?

That depends on who the DNO are, and how helpful the opertauves you get on the day are.

Some DNO's will move the meters for you.

If not then contact all 5 suppliers and see if there is a single contractor you could get to move the meters that they will all be happy with.

Or the old fashioned way is to just temporary connect them until each metering company can move their individual meters.

You can't move them all to one supplier, most of the customers will have exit charges and or minimum contract lengths.

It won't be the first time this has happened, they'll most likely have a standard way of dealing with it.

Each customer will have to contact their own supplier and inform them.

Number one I think is to get isolators for each meter. The energy providers will move meters a certain distance for free. They will expect all the tails to be ready when they come so they just change over the meter to new or existing tails. They will only deal with the meter. I have had varying responses from the DNO as strictly speaking they may not move the meter. Although one time when they refused to come out until 7-10 days had passed (energy suppliers) the DNO bypassed the meter and charged a hefty fee to the energy supplier for the work they did. They soon came out then! The DNO were brilliant.

I've been lucky that I've almost always had the DNO guys move the meter when they do the service alteration.

I know some DNO's can be less helpful, EDF were awful and their successor UKPN aren't much better.
