I dont want to get into a part P debate here but have a couple questions as i cant find the answer. Ive done the c&g 2330 2 and 3 and am taking a test tomorrow on part P to be followed by the 17th exam and the 2391. Anyway i have a folder of info i have to learn for tomorrow and am totally thrown by one part. It states part P regs do not apply to hospitals, schools, homes for the care of the old, hotels, boarding houses, halls of residence or hostels. Ehm is that correct and if so doesnt work on these premises need any certification? Im assuming it must ? Also if you carry out minor work in a domestic situation thats non notifiable (ie socket in bedroom) would you have to provide the client with a copy of your minor work or just keep it for your own records or just not bother with one? Bit lost on that one. Thanks.

You are correct about Part P not applying as you say. You still need to issue any relevant paperwork for work that you carry out so an EIC would still need to be given as for any other job you do. Minor works, you do the paperwork, give a copy to the person ordering the work AND KEEP A COPY YOURSELF as well.

It appears to me that you are getting a bit wrapped up in this part P stuff. Dont it only applies to DOMESTIC, all other electrical works fall under the ELECTRICITY AT WORK REGULATIONS 1989, and THE HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK ACT 1974. Get used to those terms, you will need them for the 2391. The paperwork issued to any kind of electrical work is exactly the same whether it is domestic, commercial or industrial.

Part P is designed for domestic installations and all you note would not come under domestic and therefore non notifiable. They do though still need certification on any work done on them that requires one. You would do exactly the same as in Part P , you leave the original with the client and you keep a copy, it just means you don't notify your scheme.

In your part P approved document on page 4 under mixed development is a good piece about just that, say you have a hotel that also as private living area, it will advise what to do.

A MEIWC again as above you fill it out leaving the original with the client and you keep a copy.

Think id rather pass a stone than read this tbh. Didnt realise id have to learn about things like part F ( ventilation ) aswell . Its incredible how someone can give a reg on a window size for a certain room or like in part A ( structure ) how to calc hole size in joist or part M ( access to and use of buildings ) giving a specific height for a door bell ... omg! Bamboozled that theres regs on what i thought people used initiative and common sense on .. books down .. a beer required :S

Took part P today...20 questions .. was built up for far worse. Was done in 15 mins with a pass. The only question that blew me was one about the litres of moisture/air? an extractor fan in a bathroom should extract per second. Other than that was all about regs or similar, along with common sense. You people that have been in the game a while would breeze the test with zero revision...probably why its not needed. So Howard that is my last word on part P mate honest 17th edition next...now then ...
