Hi all

I have been asked to do some outside lights with a PIR and an override switch inside.
I believe the best way is to run from consumer unit L + N to switch and then a 3 core to sensor (PL,SL and N) and then SL & N to lights. Someone has already ran the SWA cable outside (under the driveway)which is a 3 core so I can use braiding as the Earth. Can anyone else suggest any other alternatives or is this the simplest way?

Thanks

If the cable is already there, why change it?
The arrangement you have will serve OK.

Cablewise, I would do it like that.

If the PIR has a pulse over-ride mode then you only need an on/off switch inside.
If not i use a 2gang switch like this
full

That allows the lights to be on, off or PIR controlled.

Or use a three position switch with a centre off (MK do a grid version of these)
