My hood has recently become faulty. It has a 3 speed range, it seems to run at an incredibly higher speed than it used to and the 3 speed changer has very little difference in speed, just really fast. Also the noise is now very loud.
It does switch off and the lights work. Any ideas people on possible faults before i start to take it all to pieces?

I remember that the cheaper 2 speed electric drills used a switchable diode to half the power to the motor, a more expensive solution would be to use a triac with switchable gate voltages - or possibly a loose connection somewhere ?

I finally took it off the wall and discovered that the flex had fallen and was rubbing on the motors rotor blades thus causing the noise and reduction in speed, repaired the cable and fixed out of the way. Job done.
