I am looking for suitable brackets to fit panels onto a Hardrow Concrete Slate Roof. I've been in contact with the Hardrow technical dept and they do not think a suitable bracket exists.
The problem is that the bracket has to extend about 10 inches over the slate under it, since this is the size of the overlap.
The only suggestion I have had so far is to cut out a slot about 7 inches long out of the slate above it and use some sort of lead flashing arrangement.
Any better ideas would be much appreciated.

John

It's good to find someone who has actually put panels on a Hardrow roof, such people seem hard to come by.

Thank you for your offer to help. I look forward to getting your details.

Hi John,

Picture attached of how i did ours, because of the triple overlap we have to find a method of holding the slate back in place, lead tingles are not strong enough as these slates are 20mm thick concrete and heavy (ish) so we used the "jenny strap" bought them from here Jenny Twin Product Info they didnt fit exactly but i managed to adapt it slightly to make them work.

We used normal SS hooks from Renusol for this job.

Also we used lead flashing under the hook in any area were the hook dropped near a joint or on a joint below.

Hope this helps, please feel free to ask more questions if anything is unclear.

Thank you for that help. The problems are (a) all the slates are nailed and so are very difficult to remove without breaking, and (b) the difficulty of keeping the replaced slates in position.
After much thought, we are going to use hanger bolts. I've been in the loft space with a long batten and marked out the positions of the trusses being used for hangers, to help find the right places to drill on the roof.

I have highlighted but you can see staining to show where the water on the roof tracks back under the slate, if you leaded over this it would still track under the lead, just as it would if you overlaid slates. mock up below.

Starcott using a roof hanger requires penetration of the roof fabric, relying on the rubber seal to seal the hole made for the bolt will require you to tighten down against the tile putting a point loading on the tile which will be a weak spot for cracking with thermal movement. sealing it with Mastic is not allowed under MCS.

The method appears identical to the standard slate fixing method that we use.

What were these slates like to work with? Brittle? Break many?

Made from concrete, hard as rock and was a good roof to do, I don't see this any differtent to loads of other jobs.

I like the sound of it. There are a few of them around us so I'll see if one of them pops up in the future.

Hi Dansk,
Like other posts on here I have a Solar install on a Hardrow tile (18x12) roof. The solutions detailed below look rather dubious to me. Have you still got details regards how you undertook your install?

Hi All,I think I have found an answer to my Hardrow query. Try using SolarFlash. You can find them at GeniusRoofSolutions. Well worth a browse.

Hi - just looked at that - seems ok, but i don't think you need it on Hardrow slate as its 20mm thick, i haven't had any problems with the ones ive done like above. The roof hook isnt actually sitting proud of the slates, its buried below, all it needs is some lead flashing across and the slate above putting back.
