Hi guys, wondered what everyone does about making sure there gear is identifiable if stolen and for ID etc? Is there anything new/cheap ish out there I can use for my drills/impact driver etc??

Cheers :)

Personally would use invisible UV pen on the underside of the drills where the battery connects probably the lest likely place for it to be rubbed off, or do what a mate of mine does and paint all your powers tools fluorescent pink.

someone was telling me about Hilti stuff, where you a coded card that yopu need to charge the batteries, so if the drill or other tool gets stolen the thief cant re charge ...sounds good to me , of course would nt be any good for 110 or 230 V

metarbo had corded tools that where coded like the Hilti which now have corded tools with the option of being coded it's a key fob you brush over the tool great bit of kit. Even if you do get it nicked you have the satisfaction of knowing they are buggered when they try and use it.

Come on pinks the new red!!. Wouldn't bother with security if it's hilti if you've bought it new from a dealer they have a 11 digit code I think on the tool in various place inside and out that's traceable to your account history. If you report the tool stolen, when it surfaces for a repair or service it's flagged on the system as half inched.

I melt my name into my gear with a soldering iron.
now i've fallen out with the plumber i did occasional work for, nothing goes missing any more. going to use novus's method, brand with a soldering gun.

Smart water is very good stuff but I think security of tools on site needs a visual deterrent more than an invisible mark.
Engrave, solder burn or similar give a visible deterrent.

Problem with invisible marking is you can't clobber the thievin pikey till you've got your uv torch or whatever and checked the item.

Look up a local engraving firm with a laser. Simple and easy to mark most stuff.Get it professionaly branded with your logo, company name and phone number, "reward if found" etc.....prob only looking at a couple of quids per item

I can imagine offering a reward being counterproductive, with some smart alec bringing you your tools every 5 minutes and demanding a reward.
