Hi all I am new to this and practising using a Megger 1553 tester. I Isolate the system connect the line to earth and my meter starts to test and then its like the circuit gets broken after a split second and no reading can be taken.
I have conected a long lead from the earth at consumer unit to the earth at the light fitting I am checking and it reads continuity. But method 1 just won't seem to work.

Any ideas

cheers

Long lead method.
Connect lead at earth terminal in CU, and connect other end through your tester to any given earth terminal in the circuit, the highest reading you get is the R2 value for that circuit.
R1+R2 method.
Join Line to CPC in CU, take reading at any point on the circuit between L-CPC the highest value you get is the R1+R2 for the circuit. On a lighting circuit make sure the switch is ON or you will not get a reading at the lamp holder.

If your machine is going off after a few seconds then check the batteries, if all is well you are doing something wrong.

Cheers........Howard
