lads u know d new regs say all stranded cables must be crimped now, u know the wires in plugs are now crimped on the ends. where can i buy the butts

Is this only stranded wires when used in the installation, or does it also apply to plug connections on the flex fitted to appliances? Which regulation refers?

I was under the impression that manufacturers automatically fit ferrules with their wire stripper machine to make fitting the flex to the plug more efficient, not that there was any particular requirement for it. The COP (electrical equipment) says 'there should be no loose strands' - so by implication, we would expect to find cables without ferrules.

I've not heard of this being a reg. I use ferruels on larger stranded/TRI raited cable for piece of mind to ensure I am getting a mechanically sound connection and to ensure no strands are exposed. I would be interested to know different tho.

I've been meaning to buy one of these bad boys (as i use alot of stranded cables mainly terminated into Din rail terminals) but they are £££ Weidmuller | Connectors | Accessories | Connector Tooling | Bootlace Ferrule Strips |9021920000

sorry was thinking more on the lines of a DB feed from a panel board with a trunking system, 25mm tails doesn't count as having fine cores, and 25mm is the recommended for DB upgrades etc.

I didn't think plug tops were covered by the regs as they are not part of a fixed installation. Could be wrong though; it wouldn't be the first time today!
