Both legs of one ring in a socket with both legs of another adding another 8 outlets in two rooms.

I'm adding a few new sockets and will be migrating the circuit to a new RCBO populated CU so was giving it a little more attention than usual, wouldn't normally do a fig8, when i found the two rooms significantly and consistently higher than the rest of the ring.

Obviously, said I, it needs correcting but other than it not being an approved circuit in BS7671 I can't think.....

...in writing this just thought, potentially 32A through a 20A double socket terminal.

Any other reasons?

You have hit the nail on the head.

1 week spot in the circuit that could become overloaded
Also, testing becomes rather difficult.
I.e the furthest part of the fig 8 could have a break in circuit that is not picked up by end to end testing at the board.

What do you think Pete?

Purely coincidentally, a guy called pete did the work, good lad was pete, apparently.

I have opened it up and tested it, cert on the back of a smoke packet, will be moving it to a new CU later in the week.

Would have thought that with everything in one socket it would be easy to convert out/back to one ring?
It was very simple as it was a flying socket flung in a false ceiling. In fact I could pretty much walk through the whole circuit.

Wago box and wagos, done in ten mins, once happy with my inspection and testing.
