Just replacing a ceiling light and could do with some guidance on sorting out all the wiring.

This is how it was:

And the light is expecting just the 3 wires:

Wondering what's the best way to tackle it. I could do with removing that block in the ceiling altogether and somehow having just 3 wires going into the light. Unfortunately, there's about 3 wires on the neutral side, it looks like only one on the live side, and a mess of about 4 wires in the middle. Any ideas?

have a google for "loop in" or "3-plate" wiring. Same thing different names.

It means there's a permanent live supply in the centre terminals there, where one wire goes down to the switch, and comes back up on a black with red tape on (switched live... to be connected to L of fitting).

Take extreme care that the power is off to that circuit before attempting any work...

you also appear to have a 2 core flex running off L and N..... I wonder where that goes?
