The farm where I do bits and bats are very good to me and help me out if I'm stuck,anyway last week I had the chance to return the favour.One of the farmers sons has just returned from the USA and brought various things with him,including an X box which happened to be 110 volt.His dad had a small converter from Maplins but it wasn't big enough an was getting hot,so I said I'd call up and lend him a small site tranny 'till we got it sorted,anyway yesterday I took it up and the son (17) brought out his power supply so I could change the plug,anyway it smelled a bit funny and that's when he came out with an absolute cracker "well since it was getting hot on the other box I found a lead with a different end on and plugged it in but a load of smoke came out".He'd only gone and got an IEC lead with a 13a plug on and plugged that into the power supply,trying to explain to him that putting 230 into a 110 psu will only end in it being killed was a nightmare,still maybe he'll pay more attention next time.

To be fair he is only 17 so kudos for attempting to get it working! I do hope he hasn't fried the pcb lol

fried the whole psu,just hope he's not killed the X box.

I have to admit I've been interested in electrics since a child and quite a bit of the "magic smoke" escaped during some of my experiments!

The problem is this lad's just thick,he's a twin and they are as different as chalk and cheese.When I've been on the farm if I've needed a hand then one of them usually gets sent to help,his brother is great,talks note of what you tell him and gets on with it,this fool just acts up all the time,once we were about 30 foot up in a basket and I had to grab him to stop him jumping into a pile of grain below us.

Sounds as mad as an apprentice we had at Longbridge, decided to test the inertia safety harness by jumping off the top of the panel stores about 80 foot up!

i've seen an apprentice who was afraid of heights actually sellotape the top of the ladder on to a block wall to keep himself safe, he was at the tec the previous week , they were taught to lash the top of ladders with rope onto a secure fixing to stop the ladder falling, but this idiot threw the ladder up against the wall (which was twice the height of the ladder) and use about 20cm of sellotape against the block wall.

now perhaps he will concentrate on something more constructive....like college to become an electrician ...rather than sat about on his arse all day playing games.....
