Discuss Kewtech kt1700 single pole voltage detector device in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Yes I have one, it is a very useful piece of equipment. But as said above it won't replace a proper two pole tester in safe isolation practices.
They are very useful though as a primary detection device, I used mine on a pillar drill the other day that had been reported as getting shocks when using. The outer metal case was indeed live, old metal flexible conduit had snapped and that was the earth. Second fault was a live cable that had rubbed through its insulation and was now touching the hole from the start stop box through the drill head to the motor.
My seal fairy uses one too since the video of cut outs with phenolic degradation!

The one issue I have with this type of tester is physical size. They take up as much room as a 2 pole tester, so I tend to carry the latter for greater range of uses.

My Megger MT1000 2 pole tester can also be used as a one-contact tester. It's a useful feature for checking metallic pipes, enclosures etc are not presenting dangerous voltages.

I wouldn't trust any form of proving dead without a single point tester or a fluke stick

Everything can be disconnected except 1 line
Really? I wouldn’t trust a single point tester or fluke stick in any situation. Doesn’t get much more unreliable than a non contact voltage tester.

Martindale and Fluke 2 pole testers also detect voltage on a single probe. I'm sure others can similarly act as a single pole contact tester.

My Kewtech 2 pole tester also does this if you touch a pad, i cant see how this is different to a neon screwdriver , this single pole tester does that even with gloves or if no one is holding it,I was investigating a possible broken pen fault recently (it was not) a 2 pole tester is useless in that situation

My Megger 2 pole does the same, with no touch pad. I know it's expensive, but I prefer to carry one less tool if possible.
