Hello.

Wondered if anyone has any ideas on this dilemma.

We have a Lamona (Howdens) pop-up socket in the kitchen. It works fine for a while but then the USBs (and their associated LED light) stop working.

There is a regular fuse (13A) in the pop-up unit itself and that is working. However, if I remove the fuse and then replace it (using the very same fuse), the USB and light start to work again.

Obviously, the fuse hasn’t blown as, when put back in, it all works again.

I’m not aware of anything affecting the USB/LED light.

Thoughts? Could it be some sort of thermal cut-out (don’t know what else it could be)?

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like a loose connection or a problem with the power supply for the USB part.
I take it the 13A sockets are working fine?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the sockets themselves are unaffected.

I’ve tapped near the USB sockets to see if it’s a loose connection (doesn’t seem to affect it) but hadn’t considered a power supply problem. So the USBs have their own power supply? Sorry if that’s a silly question!

The usb power is only 5v dc, whereas the supply in is 230v ac... so there must be a transformer or other device to bring the voltage down.
They’re not really designed to be repaired unless you know exactly what to look for and handy with a soldering iron.

how old is the unit? Lamona should give at least a years warranty.

Understood.

I wouldn’t know what to look for and wouldn’t even try to repair it. Far too risky!

The unit is a few years old and, having just looked, can probably be replaced for around £20-£25. That’s the route to take for sure.

Thanks a lot for your help with this. Much appreciated.

Best wishes...

Richard
