Hi everybody,
just a quick question.
My friend is installing a consumer unit for someone inside a brick built outhouse. Its to be used as a storage area and kind of dog grooming area (for her dogs) !!!

Its about 40 odd meter run.

I advised him that a 16mm swa is adaquate for the run and supply ( lights and sockets). Also, I told him that no additional earth is required as the swa is 3 core and also no services (water or gas ) are in the outhouse.

He is insistant that a metal clad consumer unit is required as he is running the swa to it, but I cant find it anywhere in the regs where it states this. I told him it does not have to be a metal clad consumer unit, but he is adament !!

Whats your advise. Any input would be a great help.

regards,

Sav

Why not have a metalclad DB,it makes terminating the SWA so much easier.Cant say I can think of a reg that says you have to though.

It'll be personal preference, I would always put in a metal clad board to terminate a SWA the only time I probably wouldn't is when exporting a PME or there was risk of moisture getting in.

It would be my personal preference for the reason I said before, anything to make my job easier!
