for my nic inspection i have to show one major and one minor installation. my major is a replacement of a fuseboard. my minor is an addition to a ring circuit. the ring circuit is on a splitload fuseboard. the circuit im adding to is protected by a rcd so this will cover my addition. the other half of the board is not rcd protected with the lights and smokes etc on it. do i need to put this on a rcd or is it ok to leave it how it is as im not affecting these circuits?

It's fine to leave it. As long as your work is to the regulations and any work you do does not infringe on the safety of the rest of the installation.

brilliant thanks. also do i need to check the bonding in bathrooms and things? the main bonding to gas and water is in place and correct. but do i need to check the other bonding?

With the fact that the whole installation is not covered by RCD's, it would be worth making an observation of how the special location has been considered, just to clarify what methods were taken.

Rule of thumb in my book is if the bonding is in place and the circuit you are working on meets regs then I couldn't care less about the rest of the installation. If there was something obviously wrong with the rest of the installation I would inform the customer (in writing as well if need be) but otherwise I'd be happy enough if I knew my bit was kosha.
