Hi, yes you can do the work and testing. You will need to report the work to local building control and if you're not registered with a governing body use a green test cert and submit it to LBC as unregistered. If they think more testing is required, the onus is on them to carry it out and as long as it isn't something you've missed, pay for it too.

cheers for the reply lads, been grafting today only just got on to check. so as long as I inform the LBC and pay them whatever fees I can get on with it? wants it doing ASAP as he's due a little'n soon and wants to decorate before it arrives.

I don't think so, he inherited the house from his mother who jossed it a few years back and they had it 30 odd years so it's all paid for... nice area so can't see him moving

Well I would just get on with it, test the job after completion and issue a certificate, you can download a copy on line or buy a pad from a wholesalers, if your mate then wants to notify building control and pay for inspection to get a certificate then thats his business IMO, RCD everything and sleep well.

The world will not come to a stand still because your not a member of a scheme, the part P police won't arrest you and take you to prison if you do a very nice professional job using the best kit available and make sure all works comply to BS7671, OMG He isn't a member of the NICEIC, the fact he is a professional time served electrician irrelevent, a 5 year prison sentence must be issued to warn other qualified men they must join the NICEIC at once to be deemed competant lmao chuckle.

Just look on the Internet for people that have been prosecuted for failure to notify a job under Part P of the building regs and you will have your answer.
