Hello Lads and lady's

I am trying to break into the commercial sector and I have been offered a good opertunity for a conract to maintain a chain of shops,

now im looking for advice if I'm on the right route for prices

i was thinking £60 call out then £30 per hour

my domestic rates are slightly cheaper but as its commercial work I don't want to sell myself short or be too expensive!

do these figures look about right? Or am I way off?

the work will be London and the South east

thanks in advance

T

That is something I still need to work out, it's still early stages at the minute, just want to be certain about labour rates

No £60 for the first hour upto 2hrs,

guys im not trying to pull a fast one here and I haven't worked out the fine details yet I'm just looking for people who run companies that work in this sector to tell me if I'm far of the mark or not for labour costs. I'm not looking for anyone to reveal there prices

i think the prices I've stated seem pretty fair

Hum

So you are based in Hemel Hampstead and you get a call to Maidstone - then Brighton - you could be on the road for 5 hours easy and only do 2 hours work?

Most people charge and initial call out for say the 1st hour and then their hourly rate after the 1st hour, but that would only be within say a 5 mile radius then after that you need to be charging travel and Mileage otherwise you are going to be a busy fool.

So GMES do you think I should change rates defending on distance from office or charge a fixed call out fee and then hourly rate. I get what you are saying about the mile radius, I wouldn't travel further than ten miles on my domestic work for a call out unless a regular customer

Hey up swampy where you been, eating villagers!!!!!!!
Been busy my good friend, Have been working lots of overtime and also been looking at motorhomes so I can enjoy my early retirement, Me and the wife are at the NEC in a couple of weeks looking at the motorhomes, I have decided work is now second to enjoying myself.

Well I guess it's only ever trial and error, if it works great if it doesn't back to the drawing board

I charge a set callout fee within my local area to get me there then start charging my hourly rate, if I have to travel more than 10 miles I charge my hourly rate for travel + mileage, you have to remeber while your sat in your van you can't be charging your hourly rate elsewhere.

It should also be noted I am Industrial so normally the price comes 2nd to the customer when they are losing sometimes thousands because a line is down or a department.

Mike Good to hear you are thinking about putting you and the wife first, you've put your time in fella so now it's time to get a bit back., I was fancyinga motor home for a while but I've got my eye on a Range Rover so it may change lol.

I would love a range rover myself, but a shogun is about all I can afford Glen.

I have been a caravan owner for donkey's years bud, the wife wants to stop towing and she wants a motor home, she will get her way :ihih:

I can appreciate the OP not wanting to divulge too much but London and the South east is a big area and with no indication of how many shops make up the chain couple that with all the variables a contract like this can throw up and a forum like this is being asked to come up with a rate for the job!!!!
To the OP I think you need a lot more info and need to do some research before committing to a contract like this you could easily get run ragged and end up earning very little while your existing customer base is neglected

@ OP. your 1st post charges were sensible. but if it's more than 5 miles, then charge £1/mile each way on top. add any parking charges to the bill.

How about you get a nice VW transporter camper ? All you need without blocking up the road.

biggest prob is packing it all up when you want to go somewhere. some guys tow a smart car behind the behemoth, but who'd be seen dead in a smart car?

Get yourself an A class motorhome if you get one , I have had 2 coach builts and now have a Hymer B694 , twin tag axle , its been all over Europe, might pay visit to the NEC myself for some bits...

I would love one bud, but at 30k for A SECOND hand model, it just will not happen.

You can get a 10 year old well kept one for that money , the coachbuilts I had an Autotrail and Elldis from new and had to get rid of both due to problems , the Hymer I have now is 15 years old and had it from new and had no problems at all .

I am roughly your area, in essex, i charge £55 first hour, £35 ph plus vat afterwards for domestic customers no problem, £60 for two hours call out for a commercial chain of shops is incredibly cheap, i would be looking at least £120 for first hour and £60 ph after that at standard hours

what is the maximum distance youll have to travel to the furthest store?

is this a 24hrs service youll be providing?

how quickly are you expected to be on site from them calling you up?

this could balls up your day, if your in the middle of a day job at the time!

Imho

double those figures at least!

think of the worst case they could throw at you and consider how much you need to charge on that basis

also go vat registered too if your looking at taking on work in the commercial sector, i personally would be vat reg even if i only done domestic works

That's bloomin' lovely.
I've been looking for suitable T4 transporters for the last few months. I was possibly going to make a work van/semi camper. All the good ones were already campered out and too nice to wreck, and all the bad ones looked like too much work and money to get them to how I wanted.

I settled for a cheap Vivaro yesterday. :(
The VW saving fund starts again today :D

thanks welchyboy1

I was a bit it of the mark with the price then, still waiting for all the info on distances.
