hi all today I was asked by a customer to reinstate power to a office unit that was previously disconnected when a new incoming db was fitted (units were vacant and they were unsure if they would be developed or not)..the existing db is an old wylex with rewireables ...no rcd....after a look round the existing install looks serviceable but of course not up to 17th.........now can I just reinstate the supply and leave it at that (with some loop tests and basic confirmation of earth and polarity ect) or would I need to supply an electrical installation cert...which of course means new c/u ect.... all answers gratefully received many thanks....vitoboy

Re: re instating a supply to an existing installation certification or no certifica

you must work to current regs. if the situation requires RCDs, then you have to fit them. end of.

Re: re instating a supply to an existing installation certification or no certifica

Im a bit confused but im going to assume the new DB that was fitted was not a 3036 one and it is a 3036 sub-DB that you now want to re-connect off this new DB?

Would I further be right in assuming an EIC was issued in compliance with BS7671 for a change to an existing installation for the new DB? If so it presumably declared no circuits were on to it as they were disconnected?. If the circuits were connected at the same time as the new DB was changed then the bare minimum test could have been completed and an EIC for the change issued -- lots of threads on the forum discussing DB changes. (Or did this all happen so far in the distance past before BS7671 was even thought of and there isnt any paperwork!)

If as Im reading it the DB was changed and some time later you are now connecting new circuits to it (i.e. the 3036 sub-DB), you have little option other than to ensure they meet the requirements of BS7671 which will undoubtably require RCDs.

Or am I just totally confused and at cross purposes with what is actually happening here?!?!

If you energise it now you take ownership (of the responsibility).

What's involved in re-instating power? Just removing tails from new db and moving them to old db?
