Hi I’m new here and have re posted this from my intro and welcome post as reading through the forum I think I posted it in the wrong place sorry! But again thank you all for the welcomes! Now for my first silly, question.......

After time served in the forces I’ve worked for about 15 years in the Middle East designing and installing security systems. Moved back to the UK, and can’t believe with all the British red tape and government money making legislation, that for me to go out and offer a service to Joe public I don’t have to have a single British qualification!

I am fully prepared to undertake any number of courses such as the C&G 1852and 1882 to be able to do what I’ve been doing for years now I'm back in the UK but after 3 full days research, phone calls to Trading Standards, the local plod, The National Security Inspectorate, Electrical safty council ect ect, every ones saying the same. Signing up to a standards board will give me the right to advertise as a registered member of said board (and paying a hefty sum for the right!!) but the cut and short of it as I see it, as long as I don’t make the final fix to the power source any one can fit a burglar alarm or CCTV, domestic or commercial;.................. have I missed something is this right please help!! Many thanks GF

you can fit alarms cctv etc without belonging to any trade body, you wont be able to fit monitored systems requiring police responce tho for a while, try ssaib/nsi for info, plenty sparks fit alarms tho if no insurance specs are required you can fit what you want, its all graded it the uk now read up on it if you want to be an approved installer

Thanks for that Alarm Man, still researching!! In the mean time work’s starting to come in quite well just need to find a "good" sparks for the final fix. Any members from the Isle of wight on here?
