Discuss Should the UK pay up? UK told to pay £1.7bn extra to EU in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

OK, its Friday so I'll kick off todays debate on a EUROPEAN level:

"UK told to pay £1.7bn extra to EU"

"Under the new calculations, the UK and the Netherlands are both being asked to pay more, while France and Germany are both set to receive rebates.

The additional payment is due on 1 December."

I don't think we should pay up. The Euro countries are struggling due to the stupidity of introducing the single currency - so they should help each other.

The UK may be doing better, we still have a massive deficit, but the EU is now asking us to INCREASE our deficit to pay them.

Utter madness.

Over to you!!

Now now let's not be emotional just say non
Hmmmm no money in the coffers to give the nurses a raise ; so let's spend that on the national health I stead as most of Europe use it

flood the tunnel. pull up the drawbridge. stand by to repel boarders.

Mr Farage has wet dreams over days like this. And do you know what? I'm increasingly inclined to agree with him.

We, that is the UK and the US albeit very late in the day saved Europe, the allies removed the National Socialist from Europe if it wasn't for us we would probably be living under German rule, oh sorry we are aren't we?

What really concerns me is that we are running a deficit, and I don't believe our deficit is within the range the eu allow so if we pay up Will we then be fined?

It don't matter what Cam' says he has absolutely no power to overturn this or make a case against the EU ...the sooner we are out the better and if we manage to exit we will act as a key domino in taking down the non-democratic money cow the is the EU... Strange how Merkel says goes and Oh look germany get a massive rebate.

Personally I would just refuse to pay it, the max the EU fine they can impose is 200million a year and as one of their biggest contributors to the EU we kinda of have the cards here in our favour but depends on what kind of balls Cam' has. The minute we head down that road the EU will make life difficult in future decisions.

Winter is almost upon us and yet again there will be news reports about the working class and the elderly not being able to buy food or turn on the heating. Charities yet again handing out food parcels and informing people to wrap up at night and to turn the heating down to save money.

"Mr & Mrs Jones, we know that you have both worked hard all your life's and have paid every penny of tax you owed, but we have to send it to the EU!!!!"

We need to put our own house in order before helping out the neighbors.

For once I agree with Murdoch politically, to add should we be paying India 50 million a year when they have a man in space, a space program and nuclear weapons and power plants? Re-Europe, we need to tell them to get lost, I am all for the EU, a big supporter infact, but we pay our share as it is, I think we need to tell them enough is enough and they will have to accept it or we will bugger off.

We already pay £55m a day! What the hell do they £55m a day for?! And that's just from us. I'm with MDJ I'm all for the EU but they absolutely must be reigned in. It's expenditure is incredible and for what?

We need an act of parliament which limits the amount of money in percentage to our GDP, and it should be fixed, if the EU don't like it we should threaten them with a referendum, although I am a for the EU myself I and others who agree with it would be outvoted 2 to 1 and the europeans know it, so they need to be careful or we will be out, then we will suffer for sure but they will as well, JMO.

Watching the news at the moment and it looks like Cameron is trying to avoid paying this 1.7 billion the EU has insisted on, I bet if there were a labour government he would say he wouldn't pay it, now he is in power he will say he has no choice, For once I agree with him, I hope he shows some backbone this time and doesn't back down, we pay 55 million a day now, it needs to stop. I feel his hands may be tied, lets see what happens.
