I have always regarded them as a decent brand..no particular reason as to why though, I just have.. but had a few issues with their LED Syl-circle lights failing after around 10% usage of what they proclaimed to last.
And just the other day I noticed that two LED GU10s at my place that are hardly in use and approx 14 months old had stopped working.
So are they a decent brand in others view? Is there any decent brands left out there!!
It irks me a little as I do not like my customers thinking I have used cheap carp fittings. Ok, the Syl-circle lights are on the cheaper side of things I guess..

Dunno about the electrical stuff, but I hear their family orientated little toy animal figures are quite popular.

Maybe it's a general Sylvanian thing...over-priced for what it is...! Thankfully my daughter is seemingly over her Sylvanian families yearnings..

:D

I've fitted literally dozens of the Sylcircle fittings over the last 3-4 years ranging from 6w to 24w,customers seem to really like them and generally they've been very good but you do get the odd premature failure. Typically they only have a 12 month guarantee even though they proclaim 30,000 hours life on the box.

Brand in general is no longer a guarantee of quality. Last year we upgraded a load of communal lighting to led. The lights came in two batches from Fern Howard who used to pride themselves on British manufacture, the first batch 100% functional but the second batch we started to get multiple failures, probably 50%. Upon comparing the two batches we discovered the second was manufactured in Vietnam, the first from the UK.

Perhaps you should buy Ediswan lamps, they certainly seem confident in their products, and make a number of guarantees!

(well they did in 1898 when this advert was printed)

Dave: same here I have fitted a lot of the same. They disappeared for a little bit around a year or so ago but resurfaced. The first thing I noticed was how the internals all looked cheaper and nastier. I have gone back to fittings with replaceable lamps where possible now. Only exception is Enlite E5 and E8 which are a great budget fitting with no known failures to date.

Westy: I know what you are saying re brand reliance..I have taken apart expensive Miele vacuum cleaners and integrated Bosch microwaves and the quality of the components is often lamentable...although that may be a bit strong to be fair !!

I like the term 'accountant led engineering/design' ! Or I should rather say I hate it!!
