Hi, I would like some advice on using Tado with electric underfloor heating to ensure it is

I have Tado contolling my boiler and radiators around my home and would like to add in 3 zones of electric underfloor heating in to this system. Unfortunately Tado does not officially support electric undefloor heating as they can only switch 3A with their thermostat and no floor probe input.

However what is to stop me using a combination of a manual themorstat with a floor probe to stop the floor from overheating, and a Tado thermostat to do the "smart" temperature/scheduling?

I can see 3 different methods of connecting:
1. Tado switching live supply of manual thermostat.
2. Tado switching live supply of underfloor heating mat.
3. Manual thermostat live output in series with Tado to switch DP contactor for heating mat.

Or there a better way to do this? Is this even possible to do while complying with building regs? I will be purchasing the items but it will be installed by a professional electrician.

For what its worth all 3 zones will pull less than 3A as they are reasonably small areas.

Any help will be much appreciated!

TL;DR
Want to use Tado to control electric UFH. How do I connect a Tado thermostat and manual thermostat safely?
The only company that includes electric ufh as part of a whole house system is heatmiser I’ve found.

You’ll have to have the Tado thermostat switching a contactor that then turns on/off a manual ufh thermostat, because you need the overheat/safety probe in the floor.

It’s a faff and if retrofit will involve running extra cables, which is undesirable.

I persuaded my customer to go with heatmiser. Another benefit with them is you can boost the signal fairly easily. Not sure about tado - I forget, but Honeywell evohome you can’t boost the signal of coverage is poor.

Sounds like you already have Tado installed in places though so the above may not help.

Edit. Forgot to add that heatmiser doesn’t do individual rad control via TRV so is possibly not considered whole house either. It’s a bit annoying really.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I'm quite heavily invested in Tado now so I want to make it work somehow. Luckily its not fitted yet so cable routing isnt much of an issue.

Where would people normally fit contactors?

Close to the consumer unit or even possibly inside it. If not possible inside then in a DIN rail enclosure next to the consumer unit or in a cupboard or something. Depends on the job really.

For a system that’s less than 3Amps, could the Tado wired thermostat just switch a manual underfloor heating thermostat/controller directly without a contactor?

So if Tado calls for heat it switches on, and then the ufh thermostat controls the floor temperature.

Main thing is if a contactor is required for me.

Thats what I had planned to do but when I called WarmUp to confirm they said that the Manual Thermostat should not be switched in this way. They then went on to try and sell me their WiFi offering so I expect it was a sales ploy.

The manual thermostat is most likey a very simple PCB with a couple of ICS and a relay. Cant see why you wouldn't be able to turn it on and off intermittently

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I am in the same position (heavily invested in tado) and really want something that's integrated with it.
