Hi,
I recently bought a pair of steel toe capped cat boots which are really comfortable. However as we are all working with electricity I was wondering whether anyone has had a tingle through their toe caps? Should I have bought composite toe caps? Or will I be alright.................for a while anyway???

Something i have never thought about, but myself and my apprentices all use steel toe caps. It will only ever be a problem if you do something silly whilst working live. But you should only work live when there is no other option, and just dont be silly when you do, the caps are covered with leather or whatever anyway. I have never had a problem with steel toe caps. You will be OK.

Cheers.........Howard

Thanks Howard. Thats reassuring. I am not planning on doing anything silly or testing the steel toe caps by kicking in electrical equipment so I'll make sure the leather on the boots stays intact and relax.
Thanks again.

The most important aspect when choosing safety boots/shoes for an electrician is the electrical insulation resistance (sometimes referred to incorrectly as electrical isolation or dielectric) of the sole, with >10[SUP]8[/SUP] Ohms @ 3000V[SUB]DC [/SUB]considered the minimum for LV working.

Thanks for the reply. I was pushed for time when buying my boots but I looked in the Screwfix catalogue and that gave me an "S" code to look at. The nearest I could get to electrical protection was anti static.
Where can you buy insulation resistance boots, MarkieSparkie?
In the end I bought from Arco but they only had the "S" code too.
I'll buy better next time in the mean time I'll cover them in green and yellow PVC.

You can get the best, highest resistive boots and pay top wack for them but all this goes down the drain as soon as you step in a puddle or the get all dirty etc.... the main thing to remember is work safe then you dont need to worry about the metal slug wrapped around your toes
