Tripped Socket - 50v

Hi,

New to the forum and I've got an issue in my house. I''mnot an electrician.

Our main RCD tripped last night and after investigating I've found the cause to be one of the sockets in the living room.
Testing the socket shows 50v across L+N, 230v across L+E, 30V across N+E.
Am I right in assuming there is a missing neutral connection?

The socket appears to be spurred off as there's only a single cable.
Maybe a junction box underneath the floor as I can't see where it's spurred from looking at the other sockets

Will I need to take my floor up?

You need to ring someone to be fair fella to test the circuit with an instrument suitable for the job, it could be several things, but a loose Neutral is one possibility.

Best advice Martin would be call an Electrician, as you say you are not an Electrician, playing about with this problem could be costly as you probably don't or won't know what you are looking for, could be a simple job but you won't know until a sparky looks at the problem, post your exact location one of the Members local to you may offer assistance.

Yep. It may have been like that for a while.
It may be leakage somewhere else causing the trip.
Get someone in to investigate, generally.

To be honest it's been around 2 years since we've last used that socket. So could be coincidence
I'm Stockton-on-Tees area.

I'm not fussed about it working as we don't use it, or should it be fixed to remove any potential issues.

It should be fixed.
If you have a loose connection somewhere there could be arcing... continuing heat damage to cables and a possibility of a fire.

Yeah, a circuit that has a fault should either be isolated (completely disconnected) or repaired for safety. Faulty circuits that are left live can cause equipment damage, electric shock, inconvenient RCD tripping faults and even fires.
