HI all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm gong to rewire my land rover 200TDI (NO ECU) with twin alternator and two separate isolated wiring as mentioned below.

Wiring circuit 1 ( alternator 1 + battery 1)

Starter and other standard equipment.

Wiring circuit 2. ( alternator 2 + battery 2)

winch / air condition (front and rear )

I have a below concern about this setup.

***** Can I use common Negative for both circuits (chassis) ?

Appreciate your advice on this

Thank you

I don't know where you will squeeze the other alternator in or how to get the pulley system to work but in the UK it's more usual for 1 alternator to charge 2 batteries.

Yes you can use a common negative.
Twin alternator mounts are available from a number of makers of landrover accessories. Or else you can make your own mount which can bolt on to the top of the timing case where the air con pump would go if you don't have aircon.

If you don't know then don't answer! It's not uncommon for a landrover to be fitted with a second alternator like this, mounting and belt kits are available to do this. You could even have it as a factory fit option in years gone by.

The start of your reply was a bit sharp. I didn't know but I do now. And the reason why I answered was to try and give another option. There is always more than one way to skin a cat.

I would like to mount alternator like below pic.

Might be a better idea to fit a single,up-rated alternator, and associated split charge/current limit devices.

...Let's not give a Landrover ONE more mechanical piece to fail...:icon12:
