what are people prefered methods?

take the ring up to switched fused spurs above work top and then spur down into sockets below (behind washing machine/dishwasher etc)

or use a grid switch- take your ring to a 20a DP grid switch- take the ring in and out of how many 20a DP switches you have- then take your cable from load side of DP switch off to the sockets under worktops

the 2nd of the 2 method- just seems that there's a-lot of cables all in one box- but i think it does look a little neater having them all in one place.

It completely depends on the specific situation, every kitchen fit is different, and on the desires of the customers as to the aesthetics and functionality of the kitchen.
There are a lot more than two methods to acheive the right result.

Terminating 2.5 t+e in grid switches is not fun.

Especially when using Deta yokes. They are so thin, they just bend out of shape when pushing them back and switches pop out...I hate them and avoid them at all costs lol

As above, it all depends on the kitchen layout and also what's already in place. No point in making work when something is alright how it is. Grids are tidy but take a lot of work in my opinion although a very deep back box is always a good start.
