Hello,

I'm new to the Forum 24. Long story short, left school wanting to be an electrician, fell into an apprenticeship doing HVAC testing, and now in to maintenance. Looking to get back to where I wanted to be, I'm in touch with a training company to do a L3 & NVQ + 18th and I&T. Going to get in touch with a domestic electrician to gain some experience for my NVQ and going to do the fault finding aspect at work, but to gain the commercial install side I'm planning on getting on site as an electricians mate.

Question is, am I on the right track? Any quals that I've missed? And mainly, what's life like as electricians mate? (I'm expecting a lot of cable pulling and carrying ----) also what are the wages like?

No problem, do I need to do the Part P to work domestic or will the NVQ, 18th and a gold card be more than enough?
for part p compliance (domestic) the usual way is to join a scam, e.g. niceic. that's all.

you might have trouble join a scam during the covid19 pandemic

Tin hat on

you might be better off just doing the job and notifying later

Yes going to have to put it all on hold for a few months now unfortunately. Using the time instead to study online and do more research. Hours at my company have been halved so hopefully I might be able to get in with an electrician privately to gain some experience. If any are still working that is ?
