Hi there,

Wonder if anyone could shed some light on this.

Just completed my years at college, and recently just passed my AM2 exam on Monday of last week. My portfolio is nearly done also. My question is that after my portfolio is completed and signed off, is that it? Am I a qualified electrician capable of inspecting and testing mine and others work? Or is there another course or exam I need to complete?

2931 is next for you. Am2 allows you to get a J.I.B gold card. Do the 2391 first, then send paper work off to J.I.B.That way you will go from a Electrical installer (which you are now) to approved electrician. To sign work off you have to be part p or approved contractor, which means a membership to a scheme. Something totally seperate
Personally I wouldnt stop at that. I would get enrolled for the Hnc.This is the basic qual what opens doors in employment. Depends on what you end up doing.
I did the nvq 2-3 & 16th edtion (full 5 yr training scheme). 2391. Then I did an HNC-HND. the 17th edtion update recently. I'm 27 from a machine background. I've had NICEIC approved business for five years. Before that time I've had good jobs thanks to the HNC/HND. Wouldnt of said the nvq3 would of got me as far and the skills I've gained alone. Hope this helps,

No Its a taster really to testing is am2. Your fit to do it within a company. Then it gets reviewed and sign off by the QS of that company.
If you were to get your card now, you would be fit for site work as an installation electrician. It's mainly aimed at the construction industry. So works would incude house rewires commercial install's. Industrial will except it, but you will need to show skills with tray work, swa and conduit. Plus aload of other tickets suited to the work your doing. The card shows your a safe working electrician as your cscs is included within card. J.I.B is a body that sets the pay/cscs standard of the industry. If you were to be within a jib company your wage would be set as a basic by them. £12.50 ph as you are now.
