A building has 1 3 phase thing in it and 3 fuse boards single phase 1 to each phase but they are going to turn of one board for about a year . How will this affect the readings as in bills
How does a 3 phase meter work

when 3p is used the excess current goes down the phases.

on single phase it goes down the neutrel

in otherwords there wont be any strange readings just a lower demand for a while

would this not unbalance the phases? not a 100% sure but i thought ideally you try load each of the phases the same
Yes it will unbalance as one phase will hardly be used ! The only thing that's 3 phase is a cooker I think . So even when that's used it will always be unbalanced

I[SUB]n[/SUB] = √((I[SUB]a[/SUB]²+I[SUB]b[/SUB]²+I[SUB]c[/SUB]²)-((I[SUB]a[/SUB]*I[SUB]b[/SUB])+(I[SUB]a[/SUB]*I[SUB]c[/SUB])+(I[SUB]b[/SUB]*I[SUB]c[/SUB])))

I am not going in to effect of a broken neutral on a star system. The voltage/current vector diagrams are interesting but not easy to explain.

Added to which the OP could ask me a question but as he’s on my ignore list it could prove difficult.

They won’t let me in. I’d like to see what level the questions are at and more importantly the quality of answers.

But Marvo seems to think I’ll start savaging the Electrical Trainee’s. I’ll help genuine trainees but not them! I can look in the DIY section where I would run amuck if I could post, but not the trainee section. Seems stupid to me considering I’m a qualified trainer for apprentices.

Well i for one think the trainee section would definitely benefit if you had access. Seems silly to me considering the vast amount of knowledge you possess.

I am sure the others would agree also.

Marvo won’t allow me in. Paul would be very worried if I did get in. I don’t know who else is at the tiller in there.

I’m not one for quoting BS7671 ad-nausium. Electrical theory being far more important to me. If you don’t understand the math’s and physics behind a piece of kit then how are you going to be able to work on it or repair it?

But don’t worry, Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau has a cunning plan to get in there.

The worrying thing here was the OP, I have the member concerned on my ignore list but had to open the post to look, I wish I had not, one word---------Gasp!!

Tony you'd be a godsend in there mate (not that I believe in god but you know what I mean) There's very few 5WWs in there, in fact I can't think of one off the top of my head.
