Hey lads,

Just a quickie to let you know i am still alive, house successfully re-wired, very happy customers, very tired Ben and very glad to be out of that house. Its hard to fully explain it on here, you would need to see my face turn pale as i tell the stories, but the house was 110% haunted!! Understandably i can only assume most of you who are reading this are probably in mid scrabble for something to hold on to as your fall off your chairs in fits of hysterics, and up until this last week i would have joined you...but the guy working with me was in agreement and couldnt wait to leave, and i burdened the plasterer with the hauntings and the tales that went on in this house and left the poor bloke shaking on his hopper like a dog taking a **** cowering in the corner with his trowel for protection. He was not a happy bunny.

Aside from the horrendous and totally unexplanable **** that went on in that house, i thoroughly enjoyed the job and got on really well. Wasnt half as bad as i was expecting, apart from the house being fully furnished....massive ball ache. 5 days wiring the things, 2 days playing removals man. Few odds and sods left to do, and will unfortauntely have to go back in the next couple of evenings to do them...in the dark...with my one little work light for company, browning my pants a little further, already worked through the night for two evenings in a row, had to employ a mate each time just to keep me company haha! I also realise that what ever strand of reputable standing i may have had or at least aspired to have on this forum is well and truly down the pan, but im sticking to my guns on this one. DO NOT undertake any work on highfield crescent in hindhead. you will leave a lesser person :bigcry:

Anyway, thanks again to all who pointed me in the right direction. I can honestly say at this point however, that acheiving a rewire to a good standard, with thorough testing and anticipating a few set backs such as a furniture, awkward loft access, tiled flooring, hidden incoming water mains to bond, 2 dopey cats, ghosts, and only eating home made samosas from the petrol station on the corner that cause uncontrollable and semi-unconcious rendering gas clouds on a 15 minute basis...rewiring a house of that size in under a week is quite a task and hats off to those who manage it!

Cheers chaps

Ben

I feel i need to explain the ghost thing briefly too...so i dont look like a total numb nuts.

Aside from many other similar occurances to this one, and the front door opening itself when fully closed (and when i say fully closed i mean yale totally latched shut), this was by far the worst.

House is over 120 years old, lovely looking home, but is tatters inside and has been for many years as owner was clearly a troll.

I arrive on site at 7am, open up walk in. No one else is there yet so i spent 20 mins just re-organising my stuff, gathering my tools etc so i went room to room getting my stuff out and making piles of it downstairs in the dining room. So...i only had the Coax points to do, so grabbed my strippers and a screw driver, that was it. I kept tripping over my socket cut out guide (noob tool i know but i like to get a neat cut) so i picked it up and tucked it at the bottom of my tool bag and dumped all my other gear on top of it as i wouldnt need it again so put it away for good (which had subesequently ended up in strange rooms all over the house where i hadnt used, just assumed someone was moving it etc..wrong).

Went upstairs with my lonely little work light as the house is pitch black and sat down in the weirdest of all the rooms and sat on the floor wiring in the RG6 cable. When i was done stood up and turned to walk off, when i trod on something...looked down, and there was the socket guide, placed right next to me no more then an inch away. At first i stood up scratching my head, then i just clenched my arse cheeks in a cataclysmic effort to stop me from turtle heading. Absolutely freaked me the hell out, and continues to do so. That guide was underneath piles and piles of tools. i found rolls of my tape under the sofa, the safety lables from the CU had been moved off the top of the board and tucked away underneath papers on the undistrubed hallway table...list goes on. anyone got a number for the ghost busters!!

Whoever it was- liked you !!!!!!

Well done on the re-wire, you sound well pleaswd with the job.
Some spirits follow you........ Only joking!

Awesome story mate! And I completely believe it.

I lived in a house that was built late 1700's. That too was haunted. Sounds of singing, footsteps etc. The best trick it used to pull was the bath plug. No matter how hard we used to stuff the plug in the hole, if you left the bath to run on its own, you could almost guarantee the plug was out when you returned!!

Well done Wade glad it all went ok.......Shame you could'nt get the ghost giving you a hand pulling cables etc would have saved on having a mate in..:icon11:

ghost, or spirits, are with us everywhere. just that generally we are too tied up in practicalities to notice them. usually harmless, most just want to be loved. the stronger types can make their presence felt by moving inanimate objects. if angry they will throw them.

Wade well done on the rewire but you should have charged more for dangerous working environment lol.

You should have tried to make friends or be friendly with them, seems like they/it was just having a laugh at your expence. Let's face we would all do the same if we were a ghost.

Seeing as christmas is on the way
No your not getting a present, just a reality check

Believing in ghosts, spirits and all the rest of the garbage surrounding such things, bah Humbug

I will believe you did a good job of the rewire Wade, but the other nonsense didtrain said all that needs to be said :sifone:

Thanks for the report Ben. It's nice when people take the time to say how things turn out. I wonder what the risk assessment procedure for haunted premises is?

DO NOT undertake any work on highfield crescent in hindhead. you will leave a lesser person :bigcry:
Spookily, Highfield Crescent isn't a crescent!

well....alright wade mate.....but took too long with this one though.........i think you started ...what was it?....about 6 weeks ago?......

Wade I've had a right chuckle through reading your posts on this one :D

Some of your wording really cracked me up lol

I have never SEEN a ghost but I do believe I have been in the same room as one on more than one occasion.

Sounds like you did a great job, you should have taken some photos. You never know, there may have been some unexplainable shadows on there;)

:thumbsup

hmm....talking about shadows...was out "ale sampling" last night .......:biker:

Right, last thing.

Not only will the owners haunt me forever asking me to change bulbs by the looks of things, but the ghost was def not keen on me returning to pick my tools up the night befre last. Someone said i was brave to stay, but this time, i literally bolted out the door like penguin on a water slide.

Was downstairs just removing an old socket from the skirting for them, when there was the ludest bang and then subsequent crashing and tumbling of stuff upstairs...another loud bang of things sounding like they were al falling over, then total silence....absolutely, 120% bricked it. problem was i left my drill and all my holesaws upstairs in the bathroom, which meant walking the entire length of the landing to get there...for a second, considered leaving them there and adding them to material costs. but i manned up, went upstairs to investigate...and surpirse suprise...nothing, anywhere, had fallen over.

after 3 consecutive B&H on the way home, and half a pack of soft mints i just about calmed down and managed to unclench.
