10A EV charger plug

I stupidly cut a melted plug off a 10A plug in charger today as is was completely melted only to find it has six wires in it, I take it they are current sensors so it is now game over

They look like sensors of some form. Not over-temperature I suspect!

Could just be to check it is fully inserted, or maybe to get some feedback from the car about its needs, etc.

if the charging plug is of the same tech as in the type 1 then the 2 wires will likely be to a switch that creates a resistance basically routed through a resistor. the resistance is picked up by the car or charger and stops the charge session and allows you to safely remove the charging plug, that said I havent seen a 10amp ev plug before.

have a word with the guys at evbitz if he cant fix it for you, he will likely buy it for spares..

also add on a proper charging cable the wires are hydraulically crimped to the pins, i have a huge hydraulic crimping tool for it, its heavy duty stuff. not surprised that melted if you look at those connections

According to the technology of the battery being charged they could be overcurrent detectors to prevent the cells of the battery from being charged disproportionately, I regularly balance charge my LiPo, LiFi, Liion and PO4 batteries, it helps to extend their life and charge discharge cycle, but I know nothing about EV charging so it may not be the case.
