Ok, so what would be the practical solution when rewiring, take entire ceilings down or floors up ?
what I was told on the course is correct and likely to be the guidance that will be issued in due course.

I can assure you I am not a tutor and never have been! As the course is ongoing I will not name the provider at the present time, I may well do when I have completed it. Week 3 of 6 next week. Are you not going to name the training company or deny you are the tutor?
You sound disappointedNever been pulled off an Niceic assessment

That is totally unacceptable
The 18th edition should be unambiguous ...... from day 1
Be interested to hear what spin has to say, if this turns out to be wrong well fair enough. But I cant help thinking it's not going to be wrong.
Has nobody else done the 18th, was there no discussion of this?
I’ve done it yes but an online course and no mention that plasterboard is unacceptableBe interested to hear what spin has to say, if this turns out to be wrong well fair enough. But I cant help thinking it's not going to be wrong.

We shall see hahaGood post Ian. And no ridicule hopefully.
If your still doing the course then I’d challenge him on it personally.I haven't seen that Ian but that would suggest the tutor is wrong, thanks for posting it.

Imagine if only there was one organisation where registered electricians could meet and discuss these things with the standards writers ...
Makes me wonder what the rest of my course is going to be like!!

Imagine if an actual jpel/64 committee member actually spoke to us lowly electricians and actually explained what their reasoning is behind some of the regulations.
Like a Q&A session
The only thing I can think that is as close as is the NICEIC tech talks but some people have a problem with that organisation but I’m going to the riverside Stadium one in December so I’ll report back. That’s NEVER going to happen .... and they wonder why more and more people are doing sparking without the proper regs and knowledge
The regs are written by people so far removed from the coal post they should be shaking Neil Armstrong’s hand ...

I did it a month back and we were told by the tutor cables above a plasterboard ceiling need not be supported by metalic fixings... So the opposite of your tutor.... This trade is getting a joke
Next we will be told that cables behind plasterboard walls need additional support
No I’m not a mud slinger?Do you use plaster as a cable support?
Which discussion please? The fire rating of plasterboard was raised during the discussion, but this was not considered to meet the requirement for supporting wiring systems
Clearly bolloxs. The Reg is very clear.
Do you use plaster as a cable support?
Now I’m very much in danger of possible ridicule but sod it
This is the NICEIC guidance on the matter taken from their 18th edition suite guide
Yes they do not write the regulations etc etc but as a member of their scheme I very much support and agree with this advice View attachment 45557 View attachment 45556
Now we're using their guidance to our benefit, normally everybody says it's a load of old ********.
I’d have thought sleeping accommodation as in the word accommodation would imply hotels ,HMO’s and the like
Does that include bus stop shelters?I’d have thought sleeping accommodation as in the word accommodation would imply hotels ,HMO’s and the like
HahahDoes that include bus stop shelters?
