Hi. I have just replaced some 2D lights (bulkheads) with Fern Howard drum light fittings 28w (High Freq) as I was adviced from their technical department that they would not have a problem with being on 24h. However after 1 month or so they have failed. Does anyone know of any brand that could do the job without failing??? Thanks.

What has failed, the ballast or the lamp?

Really? a 16W doesnt fit in the same connector as a 28? or 38?

To be fair if the lamps are unswitched they should last ages, maybe you got the faulty lamp in a batch of thousands.

It was a question not an interrogation. I don't fit 2d fittings, the building management for my apartment block blamed that so thats the only info I was going on. lol

Are you using the correct wattage lamps?
Yes I am. These are brand new lights and installed as they came from the factory (including lamps).

It used to be (ages ago) that you could change the starter and thus alter the rating of the lamps. But you can not do this anymore as the new ones are all electronic and no starter required. I have not seen any fittings (new ones) that come with stater in them for a long time.

The ballast. I know some lights can not take 24h. (Previous electrician had used polo fittings and they did not last a month). However, FH said that their lights would not have a problem.

I have installed tamlite in the past (high freq) and they have been ok for 24h use but the new ones are electronic ballasts so I don't know if they are as robust as the old ones. My supplier says go for ASD to give it a try but I did not want to keep trying as the place is about 1 hr drive. So if anyone had recently used any brand that seems ok, I would appreciate his feedback.

Problem is that all new products are not really as good as the old ones nowdays (cheaply built). So I am a bit stuck.
