Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone could help me with a problem that I've been having recently.

In my new flat, whenever I plug my laptop in, the electric trips. I then have to go to the RCD and switch it back on, but the problem remains whenever I plug in my lap top.

My question is, seeing as this only happens when I plug my laptop in, is there any point in bringing in an electrician to have a look? The laptop works everywhere else but my flat, and does not effect the electrics in any way.

Know it's probably an obvious question, but it would save me a lot of money in call out fees/laptop buying, and maybe I'll learn something that will stand me in good stead for the future

Cheers

Sounds to me as if the socket you are plugging into is wired incorrectly, has damaged wires, or the socket is faulty - but that's purely as guess based on what you've written

Ahh cheers, I've tried it in every socket to the same effect! Is there any other information that I can give that would help people out? Realise that it might come across as vague.

Now you've confused me, does the laptop work in every other socket or not?

Right, let me be clear.

Whatever plug I use, the laptop trips the electric. In any other flat/house it works perfectly. It is just my new place that suffers with the problem.

Is it just the laptop that trips the RCD or anything else? Could it be that other homes you've tried it in don't have RCD's?

Just the laptop.

And my new flat is in the same complex as my previous flat, where it worked. They share the same electrical set-up, so can't see how it's my laptop reacting to the RCD. Most people have attributed it to my lap-top, but I can't understand how it can be unique to this flat without some kind of electrical fault.

I'd go with the laptop charger, worth buying a cheap one and then taking it from there, if it works happy days,

ahh, I should have gone into far more detail!

I've replaced the charger a few times, still to no avail! Cheers though

If you've changed the charger is would see that your flat may have an issue. Still a little odd that only the laptop with the different chargers trip it.

This is why I'm so confused! Guess I'll just have to have someone in to have a look. Thanks for the help anyway
