Hi guys, I am currently on level 3 2330 at night school, and have decided I want to move my stat for my central heating as it is upstairs and I want it downstairs. My question is: the stat is wired in 3core and earth not sure whether 1 or 1.5mm - if I want to extend the cable do I need 1 or 1.5mm 3core and earth and can I use a JB placed in the stud wall to do so?

1.0mm 3 core and earth is ideal. if fitting JB in studded wall, use wagos or crimps, as screw JBs are no longer compliant when not accessible. it is permitted to use 3 core flex with the conductors suitably sleeved as most modern stats are class2 and don't require earthing. be sure to follow safe isolation procedures before starting.

I would run a c.p.c always have done, so the cable is protected on it's route?

that's why i said 3 core+earth. the flex was only meant as an alternative.
