It would be quite unsightly, but not only that, but the door opens that way...and it wouldn't nice to have a new door stop drilled into the floor to stop it hitting the CU upon opening.


Nothing wrong with a cup in the lounge. Many house's are like this. As for being knocked, that's why they have covers.

You want it moved and my guess is that the builder/spark will suggest what is easiest - so prepare to compromise.
 
Looks like the other side of the wall is the only option. But they're going to have to move the boiler to even get to it! Bang goes their profit haha
