Discuss DIY - Can I run a fridge-freezer and a freezer from one socket/outlet? in the DIY Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

A friend who's moving has offered me her upright freezer and I'd love to have it. However, I already have a fridge-freezer and I'm a bit worried about plugging them both into the same power point. I've read online that using both at the same time could blow the circuitry. My Proline fridge-freezer is about 10 years old and the new freezer (a Beko FFG1545W) was bought a few months ago. I've included what info on the products that I've got (I won't be able to get more on the Beko from my friend for at least a week) - being new to DIY and newer to electrical stuff, I don't know how to work out the amps from this.

Would I be OK to use them with a 13amp double-socket adaptor (the cube-shaped type) or should I get the socket rewired to have two independent sockets? If rewiring is needed, some idea of the cost involved would be appreciated. I'm in the UK. Thanks.

You'll be fine using both from one socket, but don't use the cube type adaptors - use a decent quality 2 way or 4 way trailing extension.
