Hi I have just recently passed part p assesment and so am placing adverts to get some domestic work.
What I want to know is
What are the rules for hireing subbies and what is the going rates up here (Derbyshire, Notts and Sth Yorkshire).
Also if they are subbing for me and I oversee their work I am right in believing I can sign off their work arnt I?

In today's market you most likely get away with paying between 10-12 pounds an hour, it depends on the type of sparks you are employing.

If you have set up a company and have yourself as the QS then you can test the subbies work, When you do your EIC for the installation you need to use the 3 boxes type for design, construction and inspetion and testing. If your designing then testing you fill out box 1 and 3 and your subbie would do box 2.

As part P is a self certification scheme then you would have to ensure that installation/construction is in line with the BS 7671-2008 and that means you would have to inspect and then certify every stage of that installation.

In the real world we know that often the tester will only ever see the job when everything is completed, but he then takes the responsibility for that installation and anything that is wrong with it. So be wary when you take on those subbies.

as regards subbie employment, you have to go the CIS route. an accountant or your local friendly taxman can advise you best on the rules.

i has a CIS4 card, from the tax office, but that was a few years ago. if your subbies sign a form and don't pay their tax. the man in a suit will come to you for it.
