Hi all, I'm just after thoughts on this scenario please.

New extension, and I have installed a new kitchen ring servicing approximately 10 sockets (I have this on a 20A RCBO, but can easily upgrade to a 32A)

I have installed a 6mm feed for an electric hob on its own RCBO, I was told that the double oven was going to be on a plug top so installed an FCU spurred from the ring, the distance of the spur is about 1 metre.

Well.....plans changed as they got a better deal on a different model oven and the one they have purchased is 4800 watts which equates to around 20.8A.

I have installed a switched FCU for the oven in 2.5mm, the distance is around 4 metres to the CU. Here is how I'm thinking I may be able to get around the issue...the 2.5mm is rated to 23A, I could substitute the FCU for a 20A DP switch perhaps? I haven't clamped the oven, but I was thinking with diversity the 2.5mm cable would be sufficient, although it is close I agree.

Obviously, my question is does this sound ok? I realise I should have put a new circuit in, I put my hands up to that. The rest of the circuit will be low loading, there are existing outlets that service a kettle and washing machine.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

could you not feed the oven from the hob isolator via a second CCU?

Agree with Tel, put it on the same circuit as the hob. If I'm reading you correctly, the 20A DP switch would be on the ring circuit? This is not good! If you mean you have run 2.5mm back to the CU, then you might just get away with it, but far better design to use a standard 32A cooker circuit in 6mm, after all, you are permitted to feed two cooking appliances off one! I'd use one CCU and a dual outlet plate, assuming the hob is above the oven.

Agree with above, bad idea substituting FCU for 20A switch as it will be pushed to its 20A limit especially with modern accessories which tend to start getting warm when near their rated current.

Agree with all of the above the 32A circuit will cope with a total connected load of cooking appliances in the region of 15KW-18.5KW taking diversity in to account for a typical domestic kitchen. 18.5KW without a socket on the double pole switch and 15KW with.
