Hi I am a qualified Electrician from the Republic of Ireland, I am currently looking for work in the UK and to be honest I am a bit overwhelmed with all the different qualifications there is regarding this trade here in the UK. I am hoping somebody might be able to tell me what my best move would be regarding this. I am after booking myself into a 3day course for the 17th edition 2382-12.
Any help would be much appriciated.

what qualifications do you hold?

I did a 4year FAS apprenticeship in which we covered all aspects of the trade, from industrial to domestic. I was industrial so every thing from emergency lighting / motor control/ fire alarm/ bms systems/ cable termination/ testing and fault finding so i dont know what my qualification transfers to in the UK. Our apprenticeship has 7 phases, 4 on site, 3 in college.

Your Irish apprenticeship is recognised in the UK. You should try and get the 17th Edition done before you go over. The colleges in the North will put you on the right track, or do an online course, which is what I ended up doing, but you'll have to do in exam in the UK, I had to travel to Enniskillen to do mine.....I recently found my notes on the 17th edition, if you do decide to do the exam, let me know, I'll send them to you..
Good Luck
