hi everyone

im currently looking at updating a board in a factory with bs88 fuses in it can anyone reccommend a board and overcurrent protective devices that would be a more suitable replacement?

the out going circuits are ok and up to date

What's wrong with bs88 fuses. They are of a high rupturing capacity which may be needed due to the particular loads demanded by a factory.

Why aren't BS88's suitable?

At a quick suggestion I would suggest an mccb panel board, either Schneider or Eaton. An Mccb allows you to ascertain which device has operated and can also be adjustable for different ratings.

Does a bs 88 not? just because you can't see it's tripped...it's only removing fuse holders...if labelled correctly.

A value of short time current rating is available but will be considerably lower than the breaking capacity of the device.

But you also have to carry out a continuity test. Not a big deal but with an mccb you can tell its tripped just by looking at it.

As Rob says without more information it is hard to give a recommendation.

In a particularly heavy environment such as the factory does a lot of welding, or there are a lot of compressors or motors then I would prefer the capacity a BS 88 gives you.

If it is half a dozen sewing machines and a small office loading bay then yes perhaps a MCCB would be better.

That's my point, the bs88's may have been specked for a reason. Why change them.

If the customer wants a new board and some loads suit bs 88 fuses,you could fit an hager board which will take both mcb,s and bs88 fuses.
