Discuss Fan into cavity in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Had a good one today. Went to fix a fan in a bath room and on removing it from the wall discovered it wasn't cored all the way thru and was venting in to the cavity.
So can you get a core and carry on where these turnips left off?...Or is there something in the way on the other side..(soffits, facias) etc?...Bet this fan wasn`t fused down n all....lol.......

Last year I was employed ata newcastle hotel doing all sorts of maintenance work. The owners decided they wanted an ensuite shower room in on of the smaller bedrooms so once the new pvc ceiling was in I had to install a fan. I asked for a scaff tower to be erected. When they were told it was for venting the fan they said Oh no we never get them vented. Just put it in and it'll blow into the false ceiling.
And they wondered why the place was falling down around their ears. One quick call to environmental health re the kitchen, another to the fire service about the none working alarms and emergency lights and they could no longer afford to keep me because I insisted on doing things properly. Last I heard they had a team of cowboys in who didn't mind working live

Coring the hole won't be a problem, but letting agent said they have to get owners permission. It's been like that for at least 6 years as that's how long the tenants have been there.

There was a socket that was damaged in a bedroom behind reception. They would not allow me to isolate the circuit as it would have meant they had to turn the computer off for a few minutes. Needless to say it was not replaced by me

well rule no 1 mate.....your first responsibility lies to yourself......asking for live working because they couldn`t be ar$ed to isolate the supply....silly in`t head that one...lol...........

The wiring for the fan is ok, its just the vent. I've seen fans vented into false ceilings and attics before and cooker hoods not vented but into the cavity is a first. Its not as if it was hard to do its just red brick.
