Hi Guys
I'm often asked to replace a standard pendant fitting with a flush fitting having no compartment for connecting loop in/out and switch wires.

Apart from buying a fitting with said compartment, the obvious solution for me is to fit a 'Round 35mm Deep Dry Lining Box' in the ceiling first. However, all the ones that I've seen require an accessory with the correct hole centres to retain them, same as the rectangular ones used for sockets, light switches etc.

Is there one that has it's own retention screws/mechanism?

Cheers

Pete

cut a 2" hole in the ceiling. joint out in a line enclosure with line or wago connectors. leaving just the S/L, N, and E poking through the hole.

Thanks. Obvious solution, presumably maintaining fire integrity with the light fitting screwed over the hole. Must put brain in gear before opening mouth!

On a side note this is a good reason to loop the neutral at the switch when wiring a new circuit.
Some (mostly older) electricians don't like doing it - they seem to think it's 'bad practice'.

In a domestic dwelling in most cases the plasterboard ceiling is not regarded as a fire barrier.

You forgot the grumpy bit , no we were trained with the ceiling feeds how ever there are certain circumstances where and I will speak for myself here we do use feeds to the switch , the reason I dont like switch feed is if you have to add to a circuit its a pig identifying which is the feeds and also you can end up with so many cables in a switch its just not right thats why
