Hi all,

I'm a newby and seeking some advice.

My aim is to add a socket (power source to run led lights -12v transformer) from the existing single socket. The socket in place comes off a single cable out of the wall to a fused spur (and then to the socket).

I am unsure if I have a ring or radial circuit.

Reading up suggests this is straight forward and that either a radial or ring setup allows me to extend off the fused spur with 2.5 cable.

Can anyone see any problems.

Thanks in advance.

You can have as many sockets as you like AFTER the fused connection unit. Just make sure total load on all sockets will be less than 13 amps! The only considerations are Zs and voltage drop, not usually an issue if the cable runs are quite short.

To be absolutely sure, you'd be best to get a spark in, wouldn't cost that much.

but if the circuit is a radial, there's no need for fusing down, providing that the OPCD in the CU is the correct rating for the radial circuit.

Very true. But if it's a 4mm 32a radial, and the cable after the the fused spur is 2.5mm, fusing down would be necessary. Didn't go into such detail as from the OP the FCU is already in place.

agreed. ^^^. too early in the morning after for me to have thought about the 4mm.LOL.

.

I would need to know myself regardless, get your continuity tester out and test it, I bet you would love to know though Right? you would wouldn't you? what size MCB or fuse is protecting the current circuit? how big is the existing circuit? whats connected to it? Just questions I like to know before adding anything further to existing cabling.

Welcome aboard by the way
