So just been out to replace a main switch that had burnt out, Sat afternoon so had to replace with a Wylex one that fitted no problem to at least give them power... Need to go back and replace the switch with a Hager one, its SB299U..

The only ones I seem to be able to find are SBN 290.. I would rather get the SBR 290 as at least then its a red switch but they seem to be rare..

I am presuming the SBN 290 or SBR 290 will replace an SB299U or would it be better to get a used SB299U? Not ever had a main switch fail but the neutral was never done up and caused it to melt..

It really makes no difference what colour it is. I've never seen one that wasn't red, the annoying thing is i threw out about 10 of these before Xmas because I'd be hoarding them for so long. Always knew this day would come when someone somewhere would need one

Haha, yeah always the way, I think its pretty rare having to replace one, I can get a used one online which might be the way to go, least then it will be the correct switch, plus CEF want like £50 for it.. Ill try my local wholesalers see what they have, least the Wylex one will get them by for now thanks to screwfix.

Im pretty sure most Hager stuff is backwards compatible and agree dont think there is anything in regs saying it must be red, its just it has a second switch for the offpeak so would be better being red also so as to avoid confusion..
