Exploitative and Misleading – Avoid Routes Into Construction

My experience with Routes Into Construction has been nothing short of exploitative. They approved me for a course without conducting any financial assessment checks, despite knowing I was on a Debt Relief Order (DRO) at the time of enrolment. Having only worked a two-month agency job, I was in no position to commit to a long-term financial agreement, yet they still signed me up for a 12-month subscription service, fully aware that I was not financially stable.

The worst part? Even after acknowledging my financial hardship and that I am unable to gain any qualifications from the course, they continue to take payments for an extra three months beyond my initial contract. This situation has severely impacted my mental health, worsening my difficulties rather than providing any form of support or opportunity.

Instead of being a legitimate training route, this feels more like a profit-driven scheme designed to trap vulnerable individuals into unnecessary financial commitments. If you’re considering this program, think twice—this could be an expensive mistake with no real value in return.

i am looking into legal options and seeing if they can be held accountable under the Consumer Rights Act, i have lost alot of money and am very upset I hope that other people can avoid the same thing!

Wow, I’m really sorry you had to go through that. It does sound very unfair and honestly a bit predatory the way they signed you up without properly checking your situation first. If they knew about your DRO and still went ahead, that’s pretty questionable on their side.

I’d defo look into the Consumer Rights Act like you mentioned, also maybe reach out to Citizens Advice or even the Financial Ombudsman to see what they say. Sometimes just raising a formal complaint can get them to stop taking payments (or even refund some).

It’s frustrating when something that’s supposed to help ends up making things worse, but you’re not alone thanks for sharing your experience here, it’ll probably save someone else from the same mess.
