Hi all

This is my first message in the forum. I was wondering if it is ok to fit a henley block inside an internal meter cupboard then exit with 2 sets of tails vertically out from the top of the meter cupboard. Further more would I need to use stuffin glands to secure cables exit from meter box.

There is quite a lot of myths about only meter cupboards can be used for DNO equipment, and quite often in an external meter box there is not much room for anything else other than the head and meter.

In an intenral situation often the head meter and CU are all in an ad hoc built cupboard and to be honest if there is room in them for henley blocks then fit inside.

As for the exiting the cuboard with tails, you just need to ensure that they can not be damaged during installlation maintenance and use see regs 522.8. Without actually seeing the enviroment it is hard to tell what protection you need to do to adhere to these regs. As the tails are double insulated I would imagine there is no need for glanding.

Please find attached photo of proposed installation. One set of tails to go to con unit directly above meter, the other set to a metal 100a switch fuse. What extra protection/covering would you give the tails exiting the box.IMG_0280.jpg

If it was me I would fit another enclosure next to that meter cupboard as you don't seem to have a lot of room in there.

If you fit the extra enclosure butt next to the existing one, then you can slot both enclosures and there would be no need for extra protection on any cables.
