i have been asked to have a look at an illuminated shop sign, as it looks like some of the tubes have stopped working in it.

anyone know how these signs come off how you get access to the tubes???

is the a nack to getting them off etc??

dont want to look a fool trying to get the cover or the insides off.

thanks

Depends on sign all are demountable from the outside , usually the frame is secured by screws , just make sure it's fluro and not cold cathode before you start

There is normally a frame of ally fixed with self tappers which holds on the plastic sign, usually you take off a side and the sign slides out of the frame...go exceedingly careful removing as they are often brittle and the shop doesnt always see the funny side if you break it...if it's a biggun avoid windy days...

taken a few of these down before. about half of them had rivets in them, like the other post said be careful as they can be brittle.

Depending on the frame type, this could also be top hung. Might be a case of lifting the panel and swinging the lower edge out and un hooking the top. Should be 10mm acrylic if good, but as others have said the acrylic will go more brittle if in a prominent sunny location. The max panel length will be just over 3m, anything bigger will be done in bits.

If stuck, post a pic of the frame and Ill try and ID it for you........Im also a sign maker :D

as has already been said if the sign has perspex panels there will be an angle frame that sits in a recess secured by screws, normall panel will have a hanging bar on the top so remove top angle + 1 side and your away.
if its an alumimium tray sign there will be screws top and bottom.
if its a flex faced sign there will be a tensioning system underneath some trims or flaps.;)

How did you get on? I've been asked to look at some illuminated signage too. Customer says bulbs keep blowing and they want the shop front to be much brighter. So any pointers you can give from your recent job would be very welcome.

Thanks

They may want it brighter but it can depend upon what the local council says.

hi mate i looked at it but decided it wasnt safe for me to do it on my own due to the size of the sign, the cllient is going to inform the sign company and get us both back at the same time.

Good call, mucho £££'s for a sheet of acrylic, plus you would have had to replace the whole insert (if in sections) due to fading and colour match...........:D
