Immersion element replacement

Anyone got any suggestions on the going rate for changing an immersion element?

I hate that job. Bloomin elements are often really jammed in having been there for a decade, have to be careful not to deform the top of the tank if it's really tight.

Call a plumber!

Agree, I say to person get a plumber to change the element, and I will do electrical part. I have done it, but draining out the system and getting the element out can involve blow torches and if its insulated with foam...too much hassle I just do the electrics, and test after. An hours work charged.

If its unvented it should be someone who has their G3 ticket.

£65/hour plus materials, plus whatever it costs to extend your insurance to cover working with the wet stuff if you aren't already covered.

It's vented, tank in the loft, done a few in my time as my old man and brother in law are both plumbers by trade, just never charged for it. More of a helping someone out, friend of a friend.

Be wary of the helping out a friend of a friend jobs, they can still turn just as nasty if something goes awry further down the line. I'd still be making making sure I was covered for doing the work.

Elements are a lot easier to remove nowadays with a 1/2 drive impact driver and a 75mm socket The do tend to get limescaled and seized in place so I'd quote an hourly rate rather than a flat rate for the job.
